What snow?

We actually did get some of that white stuff yesterday, though nothing was normal about it. The "Blizzard" was canceled, but the snow still came down sideways, cars were blown all over the place and I was sitting here ready to bolt if a tree (weakened by this seasons ice storms) came down on the house. Thankfully that did not happen, but we're now getting ready for another storm(s) to roll in.

Someone on one of the mailing lists I'm subscribed to asked where people are going for inspiration at the moment.

In the last couple of months I have found myself moving away from the traditional scrapbook/stamp related resources like Splitcoast Stampers, 2Peas in a Bucket, Creating Keepsakes and Paper Craft Magazine. Instead I am migrating towards Flickr (lots and lots of Art and Craft related groups), Somerset Studio and "Cloth Paper Scissors". It seems like those places are much better for inspiration and building confidence. As an added benefit these places is not all about keeping up with the Joneses and buy, buy, buy all the newest stuff.

Weird season

Bla bla bla "blowing snow" bla bla bla bla "blizzard" bla bla bla "near white out or white out conditions" bla bla bla bla bla "gusts at over 50 mph" bla bla bla

What the heck is up with the weather these days. Yesterday it was in the very low 50's, then bam the blowing snow and blizzard warnings hit us. I know it is that time of year when anything can and usually does happen, but this season has been weird in so many ways. In the 10 years I have been state side I don't remember ever having gotten this much snow or ice in one season, and we're not even done with winter yet.

That is a tad early

Umm 20 to 8 is a tad early being woken up on a Saturday morning. The offender is the usual orange and fuzzy suspect. Of course he is now playing the "being stinkingly cute" card and I am having one heck of a time resisting it.

Right now I am very happy that a certain black and tan one have not picked up on this habit of the orange one. She usually don't ask for attention until I'm up and have gotten coffee brewing. That is unless the food dishes have gotten low over night.

I did it

Today I woke up with a huge sense of accomplishment. Those of you who have been hanging around this place for awhile knows, that I have been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how to semi automate the creation and updating the listing of wishblade files.

I finally found a way last night. A way which means that I don't have to spend hours and hours entering code for each image and zip file. I will spend some time later writing up a smallish piece about how I did it, but the premises are Process Tags, a bit of code in a page where I want certain images to appear and making good use of being able to label assets within the Movable Type asset admin interface.

I don't know if it's the most efficient way to do this, but for now it is working and I figured out how to do it on my own.

Now that's cold

cold.jpgI know I thought it was cold when I wrote about the weather the last time, but those temperatures is a heat wave compared to what I woke up to this morning.  -20  with a wind chill of -37. It makes me wonder just how low it got over night and extremely happy that I do not have kids I need to get off to school or that I need to get out of the house today.

Even a certain black and tan member of the house hold have taken to snooze in her carrier because it is placed in front of a heat vent and it's nice a cozy in there. But she still don't like the carrier and misses no chance to tell us about it.

Splinter in my ass

At least that is what it feels like after I had to turn in the (crappy) chair to give a certain orange and fuzzy member of the house hold some attention. The chair has been the pits for quite a while, but I've resisted to do anything about it since hubby has said that we should get new seats for it (them). Unfortunately those seats have never materialized, so I think it's time to pay a visit to Joanns or Hancock Fabrics this weekend (need to get anyway) and get some foam, batting and fabric and cover the chairs myself. It really should not be that difficult to do.

Still waiting

For my Christmas present from last year. Last time I asked about a projected time frame for when the Klic-N-Kut XL (KnK) would be back in stock, the answer was that it might be here and ready to ship around Valentines Day.

I know there are people who say that good things come to those who wait, but I don't have that kind of patience. Yes I've got my Wishblade and yes it is still working, but I am seeing so much neat stuff done with the KnK and I want to play and create.

Since all that waiting leaves me plenty of time to do other things (I don't think housework counts), I am brewing over a few ideas about what to do with the frontpage which is now mostly white space. Currently I'm thinking it would be the ideal space to display latest creations or maybe to share a surprise freebie download or two.

Baby it's cold outside

And I don't mean cold as in 32F, but cold as in daytime highs of -5F and below with windchills way down in the range of -20F to -30F or colder. I don't even want to think about what it is like a night.

Thankfully hubby still has his cold weather gear from his time in the Air Force, so he's gotten the job of going grocery shopping this weekend because I am not going anywhere outside unless it's an emergency.

Even the cats think it's a tad on the cold side. Shadow has been spending a lot of time curled up in either of the carriers. Flash spends most of his time curled up on one of the back cushions on the couch or on his pillow in the bedroom.
Well I didn't really install. Just pushed a few buttons, typed a few characters and the scripts did the rest. If it'd be more complicated than that I would probably have chosen something else.

Anyway this new install, which really is more like a reinstall, is part of my new year domain cleanup plan. Those of you who have been hanging around here for a few years know that every so often I like to start with a blank or near blank slate. Keeps things fresh instead of going stale.
