Of things to come - Mumblings

sneakpreview.jpg
Just a little sneak preview of things to come. This is a very long term project though, because as usual I am making everything from scratch and it has been a very long time since I have done anything but using templates and layouts for MT which wasn't made by me.

It feels good though, to get the mouse dirty and play the switch-a-roo between graphics program, TopStyle and browser, and see the first very rough version come together. So far I think I have the graphics down and mostly the colors as well.

If there's any long time readers still hanging around, they will be able to see that it is going to be quite a change in colors from what I am normally used to using. Brighter, fresher, happier and a lot more airy, instead of the darker, heavier and earth bound schemes I normally use. Don't worry though, I am still an earth gal by heart, but I just felt like trying to get in touch with the air that I am supposed to be.

So far, the biggest challenge has been to find the right font. I changed back and forth, between a couple of different ones, quite a lot before I settled on something which I had not had in the rotation, and it just worked for the look and feel I know I want in this version of Serialpurrs.

It has been ages since I have spent any amount of time playing with graphics for websites as well as coding by hand. Using MovableType almost exclusively, except for a short stint with Wordpress, have made me a bit lazy because everything was right there and mostly done for me already. Usually it was only a few very minor modifications here and there which needed to get done, and certainly not something which could or would take hours or days for me to get done.

Longing for the sun - Mumblings

So the snow we were supposed to get yesterday, didn't get here. Instead the system went further south of where I am living and supposedly took a giant dump on the people in the path. I am a little disappointed we didn't get perhaps the last storm of the season, though I am ready for the sun and warmth to take over and make life a different kind of comfortable. The storms we have had, have felt worse than the midwest storms we had when I was still living in Iowa, even though the frequency and intensity cannot even begin to be compared, but because we're so close to the water (only about 15 - 20 min walk from the fjord) there's the issue of getting hit by the cold and wet air when a system comes through.

I would have loved to share pictures of what a winter in Denmark can look like, but the ex still haven't sent my camera over. At this point in time, I don't know if I am ever going to see it again.

Caer Derryth - Mumblings

"Tired, so very tired...."

Stumbling through the door, after another one of her long walks through the city, all Bree could think about was to get to the bed and curl up under the covers for a long sleep. Ever since the gathering at Sheridan's, where the true colors of what was going on had finally been revealed, it felt like she had been moving at a speed which lay far beyond what she normally felt comfortable with. She knew she needed to slow down, finding a pace which suited her better, but with the plans of the house, the land which she had not yet found time to visit, getting to know her family as family and a host of other minor and major issues which needed her attention, it was bit of a miracle she had not ended up where she'd been when her life in New Orleans had begun to unravel in earnest.

Sorry for the changes - Mumblings

Sorry about all the sudden changes and moving around of stuff happening. It wasn't something I had planned on doing anytime soon, but I got a mail from my host, saying the blog(s) were overloading the server it is hosted on. That is certainly not good, so instead of taking the blog completely offline, move it elsewhere or spending money to upgrade the hosting plan, I decided to change things around instead. Hopefully that will help the stability for everyone.

Unfortunately I will no longer be using tags instead of categories, since it was the search script which caused the server to its knees.

Come to the dance - Mumblings

I was reading a series of books about a group of witches, where they kept talking about raising energy while in circle. Having not had that personal experience, it was a bit hard for me to picture what they meant until I came across this song. I know it is no substitute for the real experience, but I think I've got a much better idea what it means.

But how about this? - Mumblings

Why is it when you finally have an idea that goes beyond a paragraph or two, the character then ups and says, "Yeah I like that, but how about this.....?" At the moment I cannot write both scenarios, since whichever way I chose to go will set the mood for rest of the story and both are quite different in intensity and content.

Some days I just want to off my char when she pulls a stunt like this.

I promise you that - Mumblings

Oh Yeah,Yeah

There's no reason you should feel like this
I know that I am the only one to blame
I feel your agony
its hidden in your kiss
Ooh

Druid Sacred Trees - Mumblings

ALDER
This tree was sacred to the Druids. The pith is easily pushed out of green shoots to make whistles. Several shoots bound together by cordage, can be trimmed to the desired length for producing the note you want and used to entice Air elementals. The old superstition of "whistling up the wind" began with this custom.

Magical properties of Stone - Mumblings

AGATE
Carried while gardening, this stone increases the fertility and health of your garden. Useful for general protection, and for protecting children. Agate aids healing, especially blood, skin, and intestinal conditions. Agate can increase strength, restore bodily energy, increase courage, and even promote longevity. Useful in dealing with envious thoughts and spite and for help in easing stressful situations. Agate, especially banded agate, is also a good meditation stone.
